In 1990, he began his
transition into the counseling profession by entering graduate school
at the University of Phoenix. During the latter part of his
coursework, he started his research project for his Masters thesis in
the area of validating the role of individual psychological reactance
in treatment outcomes. He conducted his research and was a counseling
intern in the adult mental health program at Tri-City Behavioral
Services in 1992, and graduated with his Masters of Counseling degree
in March of 1993.
Mr. Hofmann spent the next two and a half years providing
counseling and management consultation for an
Employee Assistance Program at a major employer in the Phoenix-metro
area. He received his national certification (NCC) from the National
Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and his professional
certification/license (LPC) from the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health
Examiners in November of 1995, and opened a full-time private practice
in 1996. During the ensuing years, he has received post-graduate
training in psychodiagnostics and clinical assessment, biofeedback
therapy, marriage and relationship counseling, personality disorders,
and psychopharmacology. During this time, he also taught graduate and
undergraduate courses in psychology and counseling, and conducted
seminars and workshops on a variety of topics throughout the state.
Mr. Hofmann received his specialty certification as a
Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC)
from the National Board in January of 2003. He has also received nine years of
post-graduate clinical supervision and mentoring from John Rusnak,
Ph.D., a licensed psychologist and adjunct faculty member at Arizona
State University and the University of Phoenix.
Mr. Hofmann has also been active in the state professional
organizations, holding the positions of president of the Arizona
branch of the American Mental Health Counseling Association in
1996-97, and president of the Arizona branch of the American
Counseling Association in 1999-2000. Most recently, he was the chair
of the Arizona Behavioral Health Professionals Coalition, which is a
partnership of the four behavioral health professional associations in
the state. The Coalition successfully partnered with the Arizona Board
of Behavioral Health Examiners to create and pass legislation to
license behavioral health professionals in Arizona starting in July of
2004. As a result of his efforts, he received the 2003 Carl D.
Perkins award for legislative advocacy from the American Counseling
Association.
Mr. Hofmann currently resides in Chandler, Arizona with his wife of
twenty-eight years and his teen-aged son. His daughter is
currently attending college out of state. In addition to his
private practice, he conducts premarital classes and a post-marital
